J&K govt suspended revenue officials after 2 MLAs included in BPL list


SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday suspended several revenue department officials after the names of two MLAs figured in the list of Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries and ordered an inquiry into the issue. A Tehsildar and some revenue and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) employees have been suspended, a government official told in an news agency.

The state assembly witnessed uproar after reports emerged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Krishen Bhagat figured in the list of BPL ration card holders. Later it came to light that another legislator, Engineer Rashid, also figured in the list. A Jammu and Kashmir legislator draws a monthly emolument of Rs.80,000 besides enjoying other perks.
