A jeweller was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri town and some money was allegedly looted from him last evening. Rajesh Verma had just shut his jewellery shop and was headed home when he was attacked by two men on a bike and shot dead.
Mr Verma was taken to the district hospital where he was declared dead. After the incident, many individuals went to the hospital and raised slogans against the police and the district administration.
This is the 6th major incident in Uttar Pradesh since a month ago.
“We can’t state how much was looted but yes, the episode occurred and he was shot dead was two unknown individuals,” said cop Rajesh S.
Mainpuri is the home turf of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, whose child Akhilesh Yadav was Chief Minister before the party was defeated by the BJP in the UP polls prior this year.
A month ago, armed robbers killed two while robbing a jewellery shop and a trader was shot dead in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s home base Gorakhpur. Prior this week, a businessman, his significant other and teen son child were shot dead right outside their home by four bikers in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur. The police called it a case of robbery.
A 36-year-old businessman was shot dead in front of the police station in Allahabad days back.
Yogi Adityanath, admitting that there has been a spike in such occurrences over the state, says his legislature has acquired a condition of ‘wilderness raj’ from its predecessor Samajwadi Party.
