Within hours of the Income Tax Department conducting raids on the premises of former Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Natham R. Viswanathan on Monday, AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa stripped him of his party posts.
In a statement issued here, Jayalalithaa said Viswanathan was removed from the posts of AIADMK's Organisation Secretary and the party's communication group.
No reason was given for the change.
According to reports, the Income Tax Department was conducting raids in around 40 places, including Viswanathan's residence in Dindigul, around 440 km from Chennai.
He was given these posts only in June this year. Incidentally, Mr. Viswanathan had lost the May 2016 Assembly elections to DMK heavyweight I. Periyasamy in Athur constituency.
