A 35-year-old Japanese lady was professedly assaulted by a man from neighboring Karnataka at nearby Kovalam, police said today.
The charged, identified as Teja, 25, was arrested today based on the lady's announcement. His family runs a handicrafts work shop at Kovalam, police said.
A case was registered against him under Section 376 (punishment for assault) of the Indian Penal Code. The occurrence is alleged to have occurred the previous evening, they said.
The lady, who was harmed and bleeding in her hotel room, was hurried to the government SAT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram by the staff, police said.
After being tipped off by hospital authorities about the incident, police gathered information from the lady and captured the man.
The lady had landed in Kovalam on Friday, police said.
