JAMMU: Nearly 602 pilgrims has left for Amanath Yatra on Thursday to carry out worship at cave shrine.
“This is the smallest number of pilgrims leaving Jammu for the yatra so far this year,” officials stated.
“They left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas at 3am in an escorted convoy of 19 vehicles for the Kashmir Valley.”
More than 2.50 lakh pilgrims have completed the yatra in 2017 till now. It began on June 29. While in 2016, around 2.30 lakh pilgrims came for the Amarnath Yatra following the clashes in Kashmir due to the lynching of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
The devotees utilized both the south Kashmir Pahalgam and the north Kashmir Baltal route to arrive at the cave shrine located at 3,888 metres above sea-level.
On both the routes, Helicopter services were being given for the pilgrims.
About 48 pilgrims have killed in year 2017. Among 48, nearly 17 killed in a road accident while eight others died in a militant attack, 23 died due to natural calamities.
As per the reports, Amarnath yatra will get finish on August 7.
