Jammu & Kashmir: Pakistan violates ceasefire violation in Poonch, Indian army retaliate heavily


A day ahead of Independence Day, with the nation on high alert, Pakistan violated the ceasefire in the wee hours of Sunday morning to which the Indian responded heavily. 

According to reports, Pakistan army initially used Light Machine Guns (LMGs), but later resorted to medium machine guns and also mortar-shelling.

Indian forces retaliated to the provocation. Firing is still on in the area. No casualties have been reported so far.

On Saturday, at least 11 people were injured in a grenade attack in a market in Poonch district.

According to a senior police officer, those injured were pilgrims of the Baba Budha Amarnath Yatra, who got injured when three men hurled a grenade in a market area.

Two suspects were nabbed while they were escaping in a vehicle, but a third suspect is believed to be on the run.

Tension has mounted near the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day.
