Jaipur: On Wednesday, Galta Gate police arrested a girl for allegedly blackmailing a 47-year-old Gurgaon businessman after threatening to lodge a rape case against him. Accused girl is a student of Bsc in Maharani's College.
Police also recovered Rs 27 lakh from the teen, given to her by the businessman following the blackmail. The girl allegedly was not happy with the Rs 27 lakh given to her and demanded a further Rs 18 lakh or his SUV from the victim. The victim had, meanwhile, recorded the conversation with the blackmailer and her promise to not lodge a rape case against him after receiving the money. Following her new demand, the victim approached the police who finally arrested the girl late on Tuesday for extortion and cheating.
The girl met the businessman in Rohtak, Haryana, in 2015 where she was pursuing a one-year diploma course, said a police officer. They had met through a common friend. Later, both had frequent telephonic conversations.
On August 8, the girl invited him to Jaipur. The man booked a room in a hotel near Galta Gate area of the Walled City. Both had boozed together and had consensual sex at the hotel. Next day, the girl demanded Rs 25 lakh from the man, threatening to implicate him for rape," said deputy commissioner of police (north) Anshuman Bhomia on Wednesday.
"Though shocked, the victim gave the first instalment of Rs 20 lakh in cash on August 9. Later on August 10, he paid the rest Rs 5 lakh. He, meanwhile, took an undertaking from her on a stamp paper that everything was settled and she would not implicate him in any case," Bhomia added. But it was not over yet as the girl asked the victim to either hand over his SUV or pay her or Rs 18 lakh.
"That's when he approached us. As per a plan, we constituted a team and asked the man to pay Rs 2 lakh as the first instalment of Rs 18 lakh demanded by her. Our team then caught her while she was accepting Rs 2 lakh. Following interrogation, we recovered Rs 25 lakh which she had kept in a brief case at her paying guest facility in Lal Kothi," he said.
Senior police officers said that the girl was good in her studies and had scored over 80% marks in her secondary and senior secondary exams. "We sought police remand. However, she has been sent to judicial custody. A case under sections 420 (cheating) and 384 (extortion) has been lodged against her," said Ramganj assistant commissioner of police Bhag Singh. According to police, the girl had shown some signs of regret. "She asked us to forgive her," he said.
