Jaipur: A 70-year-old woman was stabbed to death and her husband and daughter-in-law were severely injured in an attack by her nephew near Nehru Nagar on Monday evening, said Shastri nagar police. The assailant, Shakul Sharma (21), a resident of Sanganer, came to meet her aunt Shakuntala Sharma at her house in Pani Pech area near Nehru Nagar, police added.
"There was a heated argument between Shakuntala and Shakul over some property dispute. Shakul accused his aunt of interfering in his family matters," said additional DCP (north II) Rajesh Kumar Meel. He then took out a knife kept hidden in his shirt and stabbed Shakuntala multiple times. "Shakuntala was bleeding profusely and fell to the floor. Her husband Ram Swarup came to help Shakuntala, but Shakun stabbed him in the chest," Meel added.
Shakuntala's daughter-in-law, Divya (40), who was in another room, came to the rescue of her in-laws. Shakul injured Divya and tried to flee from the spot. "There was a lot of screaming coming from the house, which alerted the neighbours. They forced open the main door of the house and overpowered Shakul. Later, policemen from Shastri Nagar station reached the spot and arrested him," Meel added.
The police rushed all the three to SMS Hospital, where Shakuntala was declared brought dead. Divya and Ram Swarup have been admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. As per the preliminary investigation, Shakul's father had passed away in 2003 after prolonged illness. His father's early demise had left the family in lurch due to financial problems.
"Shakul lived with her mother in Sanganer. He told the police that he attacked his aunt due to some property dispute. Apart from the dispute, he alleged that Shakuntala had interfered in his family matters," Meel said. He allegedly came to meet her to settle scores. "A case has been registered against the accused," he added.
