Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), which is facing a serious financial crisis, has decided to issue notices to urban development tax evaders with dues of over Rs 3 lakh. Notices will be issued to these defaulters before Diwali. A list of 1,481 defaulters, who come in this bracket, has been prepared. The JMC is planning to recover Rs 187.91 crore from these defaulters.
As per the list, the maximum number of defaulters come from the Civil Lines zone. This is followed by Moti Doongri zone which has the maximum number of old houses."In the Civil Lines zone, there are 465 defaulters who fall in this category. The JMC plans to recover Rs 60.75 crore from this zone alone. Similarly, the JMC expects to raise Rs 51.46 crore from 237 defaulters in the Moti Doongri area." Other than commercial and residential properties, even government buildings owe a huge amount as taxes to the cash-strapped JMC.
According to the civic body, this comes to around Rs 60 crore. There are 28 government departments in the Civil Lines zone which owe Rs 24.49 crore. Similarly, JMC has to recover Rs 15.10 crore from 90 government buildings in the Vidhyadhar Nagar zone.
"The state government had recently released the new urban tax policy. But taxes have been calculated as per previous rates," the official added.
