The Jaipur police were granted three-day custody of Neeraj Gupta (31), who was arrested for kidnapping a 22-year-old CA student and attempting to rape her, on Monday.
The woman along with two of her friends had got into Gupta’s car believing it to be a cab on Thursday night. The culprit got rid of the victim’s friends by pretending to have a puncture, abducted and later abandoned her.
While the police have failed to find any previous criminal records of the Murlipura-based businessman, they believe that Gupta may have been involved in minor scuffles in the past. “He got married about two years ago. But it seems that he didn’t have a cordial marital life.
He had come to the club with his girlfriend. He was subsequently thrown out by club bouncers when he started harassing other girls in the pub,” the police said.Meanwhile, the forensic science laboratory (FSL) team collected samples from Gupta’s Skoda car. “There were blood stains on the car seat, torn pieces of women’s clothing. Her sandal has also been recovered by us.
It proves that the girl had put up a big fight against the accused,” the police said. During questioning, Gupta had initially said that he had not given lift to the victim and her friends and maintained he was not present at the bar. “We showed him samples collected from his car and proof of his presence in the pub on Thursday night.
We also told him that he has been identified by the women,” the police said. There are several marks on Gupta’s neck, hands and face. “These marks suggest that he had tried to force himself on the girl. When she resisted him, Gupta attempted to choke the girl to death,” the cops said.
Neeraj Gupta is a resident of Murlipura and runs his family handicrafts business. The car was recovered from his warehouse which is near the crime scene.
