New Delhi: The charge sheet filed by the CBI on Friday mentions about the call details which the gangster had with the scribe who was arrested by the crime branch earlier for her alleged role in tipping off the gangster against J Dey.
Chhota Rajan was also present through the video conferencing while filing of the supplementary chargesheet. Earlier, the investigative agency had on July 25 sought more time to file the supplementary chargesheet saying that some procedural permission were needed as prosecution sanction against Rajan.
Dey, a veteran crime reporter, was shot dead near his residence at Hiranandani Gardens in Powai on June 11, 2011, by motorcycle-borne shooters allegedly at Rajan’s command. J Dey, a senior journalist with Mid-Day and The Indian Express earlier, was shot dead by four unidentified gunmen. The Mumbai Police had arrested 11 accused in the case.
Four persons on two bikes fired at Dey, who was also riding a bike. After the attack, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Rajan was allegedly upset with two articles written by Dey and, therefore, ordered his killing.
While some of the accused have been released on bail, including journalist Jigna Vora, others continue to remain in judicial custody with the trial yet to begin. “It be made clear that this court is granting time only in view of the request made by the CBI and also in view of the submission that charge may be framed on next date if chargesheet if not filed,” the judge said in his order. The CBI also submitted that during its investigation the role of another accused has emerged.
