Intermot 2016: Suzuki rolls out five new bikes

Suzuki the Japanese giant bike manufacturer rolled out a total of five new bikes at Intermot 2016, yesterday in Cologne, Germany. The bike maker showcased the updated 2017 versions of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 & GSX-R1000R, the Suzuki GSX-R125, new Suzuki V-Strom 1000 & V-Strom 1000XT, Suzuki V-Strom 650 & V-Strom 650XT and the Suzuki GSX-S750.

Speaking at the introduction of the 2017 range of motorcycles, Toshihiro Suzuki, President, Suzuki Motor Corporation, said, “Today you will see that we are continuing to build the Suzuki brand and the position of motorcycles as a core part of Suzuki’s entire business group."

 A complete list of motorcycles unveiled by Suzuki at the Intermot 2016 is given below:

Suzuki GSX-R1000 & GSX-R1000R
The all new 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 gets a completely new one-litre engine along with added electronic features, aerodynamic structure and reduction in overall weight of the bike. The new Suzuki GSX-R1000 is inspired from the GSX-R1000 concept that was showcased by Suzuki at the 2015 EICMA Motorcycle Show. The bike also comes incorporated with Suzuki’s technology from Moto GP that gives it an edge over its rivals. The company has also showcased the track spec Suzuki GSX-R1000R at the event.

Both the bikes are powered by an all new 1000cc four-cylinder engine that comes equipped with variable valve timing (VVT). This engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 199 BHP at 13,200 RPM along with a peak torque of 117.6 Nm at 10,800 RPM. While the GSX-R1000 comes shod with Showa Big Piston Forks upfront and a rear mono-shock, the Suzuki GSX-R1000R comes equipped with Showa Balance Free Forks upfront and Balance Free Cushion rear mono-shock. The track spec GSX-R1000R also comes equipped with Suzuki launch control system along with a quick shifter system. Suzuki is expected to launch both the bikes in India by mid 2017 and will be imported into India as CBU units.

2017 Suzuki GSX-R125

Apart from the new GSX models, Suzuki also revealed the completely new GSX-R125 at Intermot, the company 125cc full-faired motorcycle. Quit the stunner to look, the baby GSX is sharp, looks track-bred and will come with Suzuki's easy start feature and ABS as standard. The complete specifications however, are yet to be announced. While the new GSX-R125 will be going on sale with the Aprilia RS4 and Yamaha YZF-125 in Europe, do not expect an Indian launch of the bike, given the higher value of the bike.

Suzuki V-Strom 650 & V-Strom 650XT
Similar to the V-Strom 1000 & V-Strom 1000XT, the 2017 Suzuki V-Strom 650 & V-Strom 650XT have been showcased at the Intermot 2016. The 2017 versions of the bike come with sharp styling along with added electronic features. The Suzuki V-Strom 650 & V-Strom 650XT comes powered by an updated 645cc, 90-degree V-Twin engine that is equipped with new camshafts and low-friction pistons to provide better torque at lower RPMs.

The 2017 Suzuki V-Strom 650 & V-Strom 650XT come equipped with a new ABS system, termed as Motion Track Brake System by Suzuki that measures the wheel speed as well as the lean angle of the bike while applying brakes. The bike also gets dual mode traction control system while other features include Low RPM Assist, Easy Start System, adjustable windscreen, optional low seat, standard hand guards, heated grips and LED fog lamps.

Suzuki V-Strom 1000 & V-Strom 1000XT
The updated variants of the 2017 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 & V-Strom 1000XT have also been showcased at the Intermot 2016. Both the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 and the V-Strom 1000XT comes powered by an updated 1037cc 90-degree V-Twin engine that comes equipped with the five axis IMU-based advanced electronics package. Both the bikes get Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) throttle bodies and dual-plug ignition system.

Both the bikes come equipped with a new ABS system, termed as Motion Track Brake System by Suzuki that measures the wheel speed as well as the lean angle of the bike while applying brakes. The bike also gets dual mode traction control system while other features include Low RPM Assist, Easy Start System, adjustable windscreen, optional low seat, standard hand guards, heated grips and LED fog lamps.
