Indira Gandhi’s 99th birth anniversary: PM Modi, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi pay tribute to the late Prime Minister


Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi formally called as Indira Gandhi was an Indian politician and the central figure of the Indian National Congress party, and to date the only female Prime Minister of India. Indira Gandhi served as Prime Minister from 1966 to 1977 and then again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984, making her the second-longest-serving Prime Minister after her father Jawahar lal Nehru.

On the occasion of 99th birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister, the Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, and the present Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid off floral tribute to her.

Rahul Gandhi the Congress Vice President after paying floral tribute to the former Indian prime Minister tweeted: “Remembering Indiraji: a warrior, a revolutionary, a woman of conviction, compassion and sacrifice. My grandmother, my friend, my ever guiding light,”

The Congress party paid off tribute to the only woman prime minister of India, in a tweet stating, “Indian National Congress pays tribute to the Iron Lady of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary today.”

Party’s another tweet said: “Indiraji shared her birthday with another Iron Lady, who died fighting the British. Our humble tribute to Rani Laxmibai.”

Present Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary by posting a tweet as follows: “Tributes to former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary.”

Indira Gandhi was born on November 19, 1917 in Allahabad and was the only child of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru .
