Chennai based company Ashok Leyland has launched India's first Circuit electric bus today in Chennai. The bus has been unveiled as a zero emission vehicle designed for Indian road.
"India's first ever fully electric bus, developed for India and made in India, is a big leap in mass public transport and we are glad that Ashok Leyland has been able to deliver this. This vehicle will support the government initiative of reducing India's eight lakh crore fuel import bill and is a promise for a brighter and cleaner future for all of us and for our future generations," said Ambuj Sharma IAS, additional chief secretary, industries and commerce, government of Tamil Nadu.
The bus has come up with National Electric Mobility Plan which goes for a 20% infiltration of electric/cross breed vehicles by 2020. Aside from zero tailpipe discharges and lower commotion contamination the transport offers diminished running expenses to the administrator.
"It can convey payback to the client in around 4-5 years," said Vinod Dasari, overseeing executive, Ashok Leyland. Ashok Leyland holds more than 60 % piece of the overall industry in above 12 tons transport class.
