Indian Woman’s Murder Conviction Quashed, To Face Retrial

An Indian national who was found blameworthy of the murder of her previous lover’s fiancee in 2015 had her conviction suppressed by an Australian court today and will confront a retrial.

The New South Wales court of Criminal Appeal maintained Manisha Patel’s plea against the conviction and requested a retrial.

The then 32-year-old Manisha Patel was found blameworthy by a jury in July 2015 for professedly killing 28-year-old Purvi Joshi in 2013 in Sydney.

She was sentenced to a greatest term of 24 years in prison, with a non-parole time of 18 years.

Manisha Patel showed up in court by means of video-link from Silverwater Women’s Correctional Center.

Purvi Joshi had arrived in Australia from India and was planning to wed Niraj Dave, a kindred Indian national who had already been in relationship with Manisha Patel.
