The Indian cricket team is likely to play three Test matches instead of four in three T20 Internationals over South Africa. The matches will begin from January 5.
“India will play South Africa in a three-match ‘Mahatma Gandhi-Nelson Mandela’ Test series, six-match One-Day International series followed by three Twenty20 Internationals The dates and venues for the fixtures will be confirmed shortly,” BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary stated.
Initially, India were believed to take part in four Test matches, however, India- Sri Lanka touranment will finish in the second to last week of December.
It successfully means that Indian team will not take part in ‘Boxing Day’ match that will be held on December 26 while the traditional New Year match commencing on January 2.
As per the reports, the Indian team has already inquired for a practice match of 10 days which would involve nearly one, unless two practice games to get ready for the bouncy situations.
Following the South Africa series, India will head towards Sri Lanka for the Independents’ Cup T20 tri-nation series.
