Srinagar: Mehbooba Mufti, the acting Chief Minister of Kashmir said Muslims in India are safer than anywhere else in the world. Addressing an event in the Valley, Mufti supported her argument by saying that Pakistan has witnessed more than 200 lawyers, children and women getting killed in the last three years.
This comes even as Kashmir battles with protests and days of violence in the wake of the Burhan Wani killing on 8 July.
Mufti also commented on Modi’s remarks about “purification” of Muslims and that as a community, they should be respected, not rebuked.
So, I think when the PM says such things to his partymen, then I do not think the Muslims of our country need to be afraid of anything. Yes, some (leaders) give some statements, but we should trust that he (PM) is saying it from his heart.
Mufti also addressed the issue about the Modi government reconsidering the Indus Waters Treaty between India and Pakistan.
“Indus Waters Treaty benefits both India and Pakistan, but Jammu & Kashmir faces losses. Want compensation”, said Mehbooba, adding, “Had it in agenda of alliance as well that we should get compensation for the losses, whether its power projects or a raise in shar.”
