Kunshan. Marking a great start, India women team thrashed Australia by 5-0 today in the Uber Badminton Tournament.
Indian women team scored maximum points by winning three singles and both doubles matches in Kunshan Sports Centre Stadium. Saina Nehwal, ranked at 7th place, starring in the beginning gave India a lead of 1-0 by defeating World ranked 74th number player Hsuan Yu Wendy Chen with 22-20 and 21-14. World Championship Bronze medalist PV Sindhu beat Jai Lei unilaterally in 25 minutes making India ahead by 2-0.
The women’s double pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa beat the Wendy Chen and Gronya Somerville with 21-9 &21-15 in 28 minutes. Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Ruthvika Shivani Gadde defeated Tifani Ho with 21-5 and 21-11, while Sikki Reddy and Sindhu Joy duo ensured a 5-0 victory by defeating the pair of Lian Chu and Joy Lei by 21-12 & 21-12.
Saina made a 5-0 lead initially in the first singles but Wendy Chen made the score of 7-8. Saina efforts got India a lead of 14-7 but the opponent managed to equalize the score with 19-19. However Saina won the first match with two straight points on a score of 20-20. While in the second game, Wendy Chen led to 13-7 but Saina made a straight some back with nine points in a row and that won her easy game.
India will take on Germany on the next match of Group D.
