Income Tax Department raids Jaya TV in Chennai

Income Tax department on Thursday foray the office of Jaya TV and its partners over alleged tax evasion of the I-T department’s ‘Operation Clean Money’ to remove black money, sources stated.

On Thursday, Investigation at the Tamil language television channel were held by the Income tax department.

The charges against Jaya TV also involved facets including doubtful savings by shell companies, finance flow and dodging of accounts.

As per sources, Investigations at the TV channel’s accounts also involved the offices of Midas Distillerie and Jazz Cinemas.

Ex Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa’s Kodanad Estate has also been searched with three properties associated with Sasikala.

CR Saraswathi, a Dhinakaran camp loyalist and a party functionary stated, “Jaya TV has been running for so many years. We have been paying all taxes. We are very popular among the people and our cadre. The state govt doesn’t want us. And I think the central govt is helping them.”

“The search operation started just a day following the deputy secretary general (Dhinakaran) interrogated about demonetisation. We are lending a hand with the officials. My easy question is why to focus the family?” Prasanna, spokesperson of the Sasikala-Dhinakaran faction of AIADMK affirmed.

The investigations were being held by over 10 groups and are still in process, sources stated.
