Performer Charmme Kaur, who is among a dozen top actors being examined in a massive drug racket, today showed up before the special investigation team (SIT) of Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department in Hyderabad which is testing the case.
Ms Kaur is the seventh individual from the Telugu film industry to show up before the SIT. The SIT has summoned 12 people from the film business, including directors and actors, for questioning in the case.
Ms Kaur arrived at the SIT’s office in Nampally area this morning.
Yesterday, the Hyderabad High Court had rejected her plea that she should be questioned in the sight of her legal advisor. The high court, however, directed the SIT to question her in the presence of women officers between 10 am and 5 pm.
Also, her blood, hair and nail samples should not be gathered without her consent, the court said.
Since her introduction in Telugu film industry in 2002, Ms Kaur has likewise acted in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam movies.
Amid the investigation of the drug racket that was busted here on July 2, names of a few individuals of the Telugu film industry cropped up, the SIT had said before.
So far, it has questioned art director Dharma Rao alias Chinna, filmmaker Puri Jagannadh, cinematographer Shyam K Naidu and on-screen characters P Subba Raju, Tarun Kumar and P Navdeep.
On-screen character Mumait Khan is additionally booked to show up before the SIT tomorrow.
Nineteen individuals have been arrested so far and seven cases enlisted.
The SIT suspects that the racketeers provided high-end ‘party drugs’, for example, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA, known as ecstasy) to film identities, workers of Multi-National Companies and school and college students in the city, among others.
