NEW DELHI: Hockey India (HI) president Narinder Batra affirmed on Friday that he has kept in touch with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for amplifying men's group boss mentor Roelant Oltmans' agreement till the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Oltmans' agreement is set to lapse in January 2017. The Dutchman joined the Indian group as High Performance Director in 2013 and later assumed control as the head mentor in August a year ago after upwards of four of his remote antecedents had been chopped out by HI.
Batra said the suggestion had been sent to SAI for their endorsement. "Yes, that is valid. We have kept in touch with the SAI for their endorsement for broadening Oltmans' agreement which lapses in mid 2017. We need him to proceed as boss mentor till Tokyo 2020," Batra said.
Under Oltmans, the Indian group achieved new highs – the Champions Trophy silver in June other than packing the bronze decoration at the World League Final in December 2015. While India's execution at the Rio Olympics this year was somewhat disappointing – a quarter-last misfortune to Belgium was not precisely the outcome that was being expected, the side is a more strong unit, with a vigorous center gathering of players.
