HYDERABAD: Heavy rain and flood situation killed around seven people in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Through the heavy rain, a building got collapsed in Hyderabad which killed a family of four at Ramanthapur in Uppal and another three family members including a mother and two girls at Bholakpur in Musheerabad.
The name of the victims have been identified Bilkis Begum (25), her two daughters Zeba (five) and Mariya (two) while the dead in Ramanthapur were Balaswamy, Chinnamma, Parvathy and Shekar.
The rain destroyed many parts of the city including roads, houses got collapsed and many slums were damaged.
Till 10 am around five centimeters of rain has been recorded. The Amberpet area has received 9.5 cm of rainfall followed by Malkajgiri 8.3 cm and Khairatabad 6.5 cm.
The sky got dark while the rain drenched the school going children’s and various other people.
It also led to massive traffic jams in the city. The area which was badly affected includes Banjara Hills, Begumpet, Secunderabad, Nampally, Dilsukhnagar, Nagole, Tarnaka, Shankarmutt, Musheerabad, Vidyanagar, Malakpet, Filmanagar, Kacheguda, Koti, Abids, Basheerbagh, Bowenpally, Marredpally, and several others.
The second alarm signal was raised by GMHC as the building got collapsed in old city.
To monitor the situation, authorities tried to remove silt and plastic from the roads and cautioned people not to open manholes in the city.
GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy informed all the deputy commissioners, engineers and others to take up emergency operations.
