According to Indian Council for Scientific Research, more than 63,000 women died of cervical cancer killed in the year 2015 in India. Ever day, cervical cancer kills nearly 200 women in India. However, what is of a bigger concern is the reason behind such a rampant spread of the disease.
The the 170 strains of human papilloma virus, also referred to as HPV, is the main cause of cervical cancer. This virus can easily transmit through sexual contact and even through skin-to-skin contact.
It has been found that out of 80 per cent of women under the age of 50, the immune system of 90 per cent women automatically clears the virus on their own.
Symptoms of cervical cancer-
Vaginal discharge: When cervical cancer reaches an advanced stage, there is a possibility that vaginal discharge may or may not have an odor.
Abnormal bleeding: Consult a doctor immediately if you experience sudden and heavy bleeding except menstruation or due to sexual intercourse consult your doctor.
Pain during sexual contact: Extreme pain during vaginal intercourse could be another symptom of cervical cancer which needs to be immediately consulted by a doctor.
Recurring pain in pelvis: Contact a doctor if the recurring pain in pelvis is not due to periods or physical exertion.
The treatment of Cervical cancer– This cancer can be successfully treated in its early stages which may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemo radiation and chemotherapy, which help in killing cancer cells.
