On Friday, Chief Minister Harish Rawat announced that his government will initiate an administrative and judicial probe into the government land allocations made under the Congress and the BJP governments.

With the State elections approaching, many political leaders, especially those from the BJP, have been raising allegations against Mr Rawat over allocation of land for political and personal benefits. “An enquiry will be done on various land allocations [under all Uttarakhand governments between 2000 and 2016] so that it can be proved that the allocations that were made under my tenure had not been made to serve any political interest,” Mr Rawat said.
