AHMEDABAD: Vijay Rupani the Gujarat Chief Minister on Monday announced that a new scheme called “Atal Sneh Yojna” will be launched by his government in the coming days under which newborns would be tested for birth defects.
The Gujarat Chief Minister was quoted as saying that the “Atal Sneh” scheme will be launched on December 25, on the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
All the government as well as private nursing homes and hospitals will be visited by number of teams comprising doctors, female health workers and officials of child protection department to check health of all the newborn babies under this scheme.
The main aim behind the launch of the “Atal Sneh” scheme was to address the issue of various birth defects developing among newborns infants such as neural tube defects, cleft lip, club foot, congenital heart diseases, deafness and Down’s syndrome, said Mr Rupani, who inaugurated the annual school health check-up drive covering almost 1.5 crore school children in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.
Infants with such birth defects will be regularly monitored by medical officers and female health workers to check the progress of their treatment under this scheme and those having critical condition would be referred to another hospital for better treatment.
