Gujarat: Earthquake measuring 4.7 hits South Gujarat, near Surat


Surat: An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale hit various parts of South Gujarat, early on Sunday. Strong tremors were felt in the state, According to the Met Department, the tremors were felt at at 9:24 am. The epicentre of the earthquake was 14 km from Surat.

The tremors were felt in areas of Randher in Surat, Amreli, Sawarkundla, Adajan in Gujarat. More details are awaited. There were no reports of any damage. Gujarat had been devastated by a gigantic earthquake that took place in 2001, and which killed close to 20,000 people in the state.
