Jaipur: Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and senior leaders for two hours on Saturday at Pratap Gaurav Kendra. The discussions were held on the issue of Patidar agitation for reservation and upcoming Gujarat polls in 2017.
Rupani after taking over as the CM met Bhagwat for the first time. Without revealing much details on the deliberation that took place, Rupani only said that it was mere a courtesy call. "I am a member of RSS and came here to meet the senior leaders of Sangh and to take their blessings.
Beyond that nothing was discussed during our interaction," said Rupani while leaving the venue. However, Rupani was called by the RSS to discuss the Patidar agitation that is increasingly getting unmanageable for the BJP. Gujarat government to salvage the damage and to mark a show of strength organized a rally in Surat on Thursday.
That turned out to be a major fiasco as BJP president Amit Shah along with chief minister Rupani and other party leaders were booed off stage. According to the RSS leadership, Sangh wants the BJP to come out with an amicable solution before going for polls that are scheduled for 2017.
During the two-day coordination committee meeting, reservation issue remained part of discussions. "Quelling anger of the influential Patel community is a major task cut out for CM. Ongoing protests fro reservation may have its impact on UP elections too," said a RSS leader.
Besides Patidar issue, atrocities on Dalits in Una also figured during the talks. RSS concluded its coordination committee meeting with its affiliated organizations on Friday. It was followed by a core group meeting, which started in morning on Saturday and lasted till afternoon.
