In the wake of the apex court verdict commuting the death sentence awarded to Govindachamy, Soumya’s mother met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday. The government will do everything possible to ensure justice for Soumya, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has assured Soumya's mother Sumathi and brother Santhosh said after meeting.
Soumya's kin met the CM seeking government's intervention to ensure maximum punishment for Govindachami. In view of the recent SC order commuting death penalty of Govindachami, accused in Soumya murder case, Sumathi and Santhosh met chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan along with other ministers on Tuesday. The CM has assured that the government will do everything possible to ensure justice for Soumya.
Speaking to media after the meeting, Sumathi said the government has assured all possible support and expressed confidence in the CM. However she didn't respond to questions on what went wrong from the part of prosecution in the Apex Court. Later she also met law minister AK Balan and DGP Loknath Behra.
In a statement after the meeting, the chief minister said the government has taken strict action to ensure that incidents like Soumya murder are not repeated. "Soumya is Kerala's daughter. Her mother's concerns are shared by everyone. Such incidents should not be repeated. Government has taken strict action in this regard," said the CM.
Ministers E Chandrasekharan, AK Balan, Mathew T Thomas, Ramachandran Kadannappally, AK Saseendran, J Mercykuttyamma, K T Jaleel, K Raju and Shornur MLA PK Sasi were also present with the chief minister.
