The protest in Darjeeling by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters continued even on the eleventh day i.e today, Sunday.
A video was shared by GJM leader Bimal Gurung on Saturday where he directed everyone to strike the streets and warned that some leaders from other parties might attempt to “hand over” the Gorkhaland protest.
“I urge everyone to hit the streets in protest. All leaders should hit the streets with workers and the common people. We are ready for talks only on the issue of Gorkhaland, not on any alternative formula,” Gurung said in a video message. “Some leaders of different parties may betray our cause. Remember that one day, everyone has to die. Either my body will go home or I will return with Gorkhland,” he asserted.
On the eleventh day of protest, several medicine shops, schools and colleges were noted closed. The vehicles remained off the road while internet services got disrupted on the eighth day. Several security forces have been deployed in the streets of Darjeeling.
Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) elected members which is heading the protest, have already quit from the autonomous body. The party has taken decision to set ablaze copies of the GTA Accord, attained in 2011 between the Union home ministry, the West Bengal government and the GJM, on June 26 and 27.
