At Least 18 people died and 30 others wounded after a bus carrying German senior citizens on vacation collided with a truck on a highway in Bavaria. After the collision, the bus burst into fire.
The incident occurred at around 7 am when the bus collided with truck on the A9 highway following the traffic jam near Muenchberg on Monday.
The probe has started into the matter by police officials.
“Two people are still in life-threatening condition,” Transport Minister Alexander Dobrint stated.
As per the reports, at the time of incident there were about two drivers and 46 passengers on the bus. The rescuers took out the dead bodies from the bus after the collision. The truck driver has not died.
Nearly 200 ambulances and five helicopters reached to the spot to take wounded to the nearby hospitals for the treatment.
The passengers who were present in the bus lie in the age group of 41 to 81 and they belong from the eastern German state of Saxony.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed gratitude to the ambulance services for their involvement in the matter.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and we wish all those who were injured a speedy recovery,” she stated.
Dobrindt stated, when fire brigades reached to the spot, the flames was so hot that they couldn’t able to reach near the burning vehicle to evacuate the people.
“All they could do was extinguish the fire,” he said. “The heat was so strong that nothing that’s inflammable is left from the bus – only the steel frame.”
