BENGALURU: Female Wrestler Geeta Phogat feels that her cousin sister Vinesh Phogat will bring a medal in Rio Olympics 2016 for India. India will be presented by Vinesh Phogat (48 kg freestyle), Sakshi Malik (58 kg freestyle) and Geeta's younger sibling Babita Kumari (53 kg freestyle).
Geeta said, "Over the years Indian wrestlers have shown remarkable improvement. One representative in London to three at Rio, the numbers speak for themselves. I was with them at the camp until they left for Rio, so I know all three of them are well prepared and I'm confident they will perform well."
Geeta said, "Although all three of them are good, given Vinesh's performance in the qualifiers in Istanbul, which she won, I'll pick her as the brightest medal prospect."
Geeta asserted that, "Vinesh's strength is her technique and her ability to attack – she is a relentless attacker and her defence is also good. Babita is very similar to Vinesh but her strength is attacking. Mentally, the advantage for Vinesh and Babita will be the fact that they have competed at the best international competitions, so they know the pressure of performing on the big stage."
Arjuna awardee Geeta said, "Having participated at the Games I gave the girls a low down on what to expect in terms of competition and atmosphere. But the key thing I told them was to get on to the mat and forget the surrounding and concentrate on the match, just the way they would do back home during practice."
