Free WiFi services starts on three Railway Stations

New Delhi: Railways Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu has launched WiFi services at Patna, Ranchi and Visakhapatnam Railway Station on Friday. Railway Ministry targeted to launch WiFi service at 100 stations by the end of the year.

"By this year-end, free WiFi facility will be in place at 100 major railway stations. We will achieve our target of 400 stations in three years. Once in place, it will be the largest public WiFi system in the world," said Prabhu.

He suggested that arrangement be made to ensure the service is available for only those who purchase tickets or "platform tickets at least". According to Google, Prabhu said, the project will be the largest public Wi-Fi infrastructure in the world once it is fully operational.

So far, Mumbai Central, Bhubaneshwar, Pune, Kachiguda (Hyderabad), Vijayawada, Raipur, Bhopal, and Jaipur have got WiFi facility.

The services will be provided under 'Railwire', the retail broadband distribution model of Railtel.
