Noida: At Least four men were detained by Uttar Pradesh police following a two-hour firing on Sunday in link with the alleged gang rape of four women and the murder of a male family member on Jewar-Bulandshahr road in the National Capital Region (NCR) two years back.
The culprit have been found as Ashok. He sustained bullet injury in one of his legs. Others have been identified as Rajesh, Jai Singh and Deepak. The accused were part of a Bawariya gang who were indulged in the crimes from several years in north Indian states.
Two other members tried to rushed during the violence that began at 2.30 am in Sabota village of Jewar.
The incident was held on May 25 at the Noida-Delhi Yamuna Expressway. In July 2016, the culprits robbed the family, allegedly gang raped minor girl and her mother on Delhi-Kanpur highway in Bulandshahr.
“We had a tip-off that some gang members would be visiting Sabota. A police team surrounded the area. On seeing us, the criminals opened fire. We soon overpowered them,” Gautam Budh Nagar SSP Love Kumar stated.
As per the police officials, the accused allegedly targeted about eight people in a car. They brutally raped four women and shot down dead their male relative in the month of May this year. “We have launched a combing operation to nab the two who fled under the cover of darkness,” the SSP said.
The police stated the four detained have admitted to the crime. “They were in the village to commit a similar crime,” said Suniti, Gautam Budh Nagar’s rural SP asserted.
Currently, the police officials are investigating the matter to detain other culprits who are part of this gang.
