Former Vice-Chancellor sent to jail


Coimbatore: R Radhakrishnan, former vice-chancellor of Anna University, Coimbatore was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday evening after he failed to appear before the court during the past four months in connection with a disproportionate assets case. His wife Amirtha Sanjeevi managed to evade arrest.

Mr. Radhakrishnan, who was suspended as Vice Chancellor, is facing trial in a case registered by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in 2009 accusing him of indulging in corruption and acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The DVAC had filed separate charge sheets in 2012 and 2013.
