Former Tamil Nadu minister Sarguna Pandian Dies At 75


Chennai: Senior DMK leader and former minister SP Sarguna Pandian died in Chennai today following an illness. The 75-year-old Deputy General Secretary of DMK passed away early this morning, a party release said. She is survived by her two sons. Her husband had predeceased her.

Sarguna Pandian was elected from R K Nagar constituency twice — in 1989 and 1996 — and was the social welfare minister between 1996 and 2001 when DMK president M Karunanidhi was the chief minister.

''She had not been keeping well, and her end came at 2am on Saturday. Her body is in her house at Royapuram, and cremation will take place around 5pm,'' said a family member. 

Her daughter-in-law, Shimla Muthu Chozhan, contested against chief minister J Jayalalithaa in R K Nagar in the 2016 assembly election and lost.
