Heavy Snowfall Hits Kashmir, Five Soldiers Missing


SRINAGAR:  At Least five soldiers are mislaid following snow slide hit close to Line of Control on Monday in Gurez and Nowgam sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. The possibilities of existence of missing soldiers are very less.

The investigation for soldiers are in process. On Monday evening, nearly three soldiers were stuck in avalanche at Baktoor in Gurez sector and two soldiers fall down the slope in Nowgam sector. These sectors have been brought to a halt from other states because of intense snowfall.

As per the reports, the services of flight at the Srinagar airport were deferred on Tuesday. Moreover, Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been shut down for traffic.

The Meteorological Department has forecast intense rainfall and snowfall in Kashmir. The authorities have setup helplines in several districts for people to get assistance during tragedy.

Prior 2017, various soldiers lost their lives in Kashmir as snowfall struck the military post and a patrol next to the Line of Control. Nearly 20 soldiers died in Gurez and Machil sectors in January 2017 due to gigantic avalanches.
