A renowned singer Mubarak Begum died on Monday at her residence in suburban Jogeshwari. She was suffering from a prolonged illness. She was 80 yrs-old.
“Mubarak Begum is no more with us. She passed away today at 9.30 pm at her residence in Jogeshwari. She was unwell since quite some time," a family member told.
She is known for her famous songs, duets and ghazals for Bollywood which she had sung during the 1950s-1970s.
Some of her evergreen songs were 'Kabhi tanhaiyon mein hamari yaad ayegi' from the 1961 movie 'Hamari Yaad Aayegi', 'O Mere Humrahi' and 'Hum Haal-e-dil Sunaenge'.
She had worked with the well known music directors of the film industry, like S D Burman, Shankar Jaikishan and Khayyam for the movies that had starcast legends like Sunil Dutt, Nargis and Rajendra Kumar.
For her treatment, the Maharashtra government had sanctioned a financial support of Rs one lakh in 2011.
