A retired cashier of Bank of India (SBI) allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Saoner on Friday. The name of the person has been identified as Ananda Mukut Bapat (58) who hanged himself from the ceiling of his house.
Police sources said, “Bapat had amassed enormous riches as scrapped money notes. He evidently went into dejection after the demonetisation move and chose to end life."
Bapat had taken VRS from the bank and had begun his own business. He had called his child from Pune couple of months back to help him in the business, they said. A suicide note deserted by him said that he is making this extraordinary stride because of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 cash notes.
A case of accidental death (AD) has been filed at the police station. Further investigation is in process.
