Mumbai: A Male-bound Emirates flight carrying 319 passengers on board from Dubai made an emergency stopover at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus on Tuesday after following a smoke alert on board. Reports suggest that the flight risked a disaster while flying over the Indian Ocean, following which Indian navy and Coast Guard officials were to stay on standby.
All passengers, including staff and crew are reported to be safe. It is yet to be known if the passengers are to be allotted other flights or the same aircraft will take off after necessary precautions and checks. The aircraft’s scheduled departure from Dubai was at 9.50 am it was to land Male at 3.05 pm. The flight further leaves Male at 4:30 pm, arriving in Colombo at 6.30 pm. The on-going flight has been delayed.
