Dubai Plane Crash: International flights delayed at Chennai airport


CHENNAI:  International flights were delayed at Chennai Airport on Thursday due to the crash landing of an Emirated flight at Dubai airport on Wednesday.

Flights of Indigo and SpiceJet have been suspended to Dubai while incoming flights from Dubai and other airports in the Middle East have got delayed because of air traffic blockage in Dubai.

Flights which were coming from Dubai reached to Chennai with delay of three hours. While, four flights to the Middle East, including those to Dubai, departed after a delay of one hour to two hours.

In a statement, IndiGo said, “Due to unavailability of runway at the Dubai airport, all its flights operating to and fro India stands cancelled for August 4. From August 5 till 7.30am on August 7, limited flights will be allowed to operate from Dubai airport. All IndiGo passengers are requested to check their respective flight status via customer relations or on Twitter, Facebook and the airline's website –”

SpiceJet said as per the guidelines from Dubai air terminal powers, every one of the flights to and from Dubai have been wiped out.

"We are taking all possible measures towards passenger convenience and ensuring food and refreshments are being provided to all of them. Our flights to Dubai have been diverted to the following airports – Al Maktoum International Airport, Ras Al Khaimah International Airport and Sharjah International Airport. We are arranging alternate mode of travel from these airports so that our passengers can reach Dubai city."

An airport official said, “Flights to the Middle East were getting delayed because operations at the Dubai airport were yet to be restored fully.”

 A pilot said, “Flights were being diverted to other airports and there was a long holding time over Dubai.”
