Drunk driver injures 12 in Delhi


As many as 12 individuals were harmed after a apparently drunk driver hit them in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on Thursday night. The denounced was captured from the spot.

The occurrence occurred around 9 p.m. on a street prompting Balmiki Mandir close to the Block-12 Community Center when Anup Kumar, who was apparently drunk, slammed a few vehicles over an extend of 400 to 500 meters.

“Among the vehicles he hit were a scooty, a bicycle, an e-rickshaw, lastly a car. He hit eight vehicles taking all things together,” said a senior cop.

The vehicle stopped after it hit a car parked alongside a pole. A group had assembled in the interim, which beat the driver up and called the police.

The police discovered 12 harmed individuals at the spot, of whom one was a pedestrian. “Every one of them were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Tyagi Nursing Home and Mata Chanan Devi Hospital. They are out of danger,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vijay Kumar.

The police said that Anup Kumar, an resident of Krishna Park, was heading home from Hari Nagar.

“A driver by profession, he had dropped a few kids to a games complex in Hari Nagar on Thursday evening, after which he went to drink. He was headed home when the episode happened,” said a cop.

A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing harmed by act endangering life) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been enlisted.
