Diya aur baati hum replaced by Naamkaran on Star plus


Star Plus’s long running show Diya Aur Baati Hum is all set to come to an end in this month after having a long and successful run of 5 years. Diya Aur Baati Hum started off in 2011 and became an instant hit because of its off-beat storyline.

The show has traced the journey of Sandhya who gets married into a family which supports her in her aim to become a police officer. Sandhaya and her husband Sooraj together deal with several social issues and also manage to fight against naxalites and terrorists. Diya Aur Baati Hum enjoyed the number one spot on the TRP charts for many years but lately, the popularity of the show started to dip owing to viewers losing their interest. As a result the channel heads have decided not to drag the show any longer and therefore the series will air its last episode on the 11th of August.

Actor Anas Rashid aka Sooraj has given a confirmation regarding this news and has also admitted that he is sad with the end of his five year journey with DABH. However, Anas is also happy to have essayed a complex and challenging role on this show which has also had a positive effect on his personal life. With the end pf Diya Atr Baati Hum, The channel heads are planning to introduce a big budget show Naamkaran in its place. Naamkaran has been in the news since a long time as it is produced by popular Mahesh Bhatt and the story of the show is also inspired from his personal life.

The show has popular TV actors Viraf Patel and Barkha Bisht in leading roles. Let’s wait and see whether Naamkaran is able to live upto expectation of viewers and re-create the same sensation as Diya Aur Baati Hum.

“Naamkaran” is upcoming show on Star Plus. It’s produced by Mahesh Bhatt and Gurudev Bhalla who are producing Udaan on Colors and Rishton Ka Saudagar…Baazigar on Life Ok.

The serial will base on life of Indian film director, producer and screenwriter Mahesh Bhatt.

It will be an adaption of Mahesh Bhatt’s Bollywood film Zakhm (1998). However, there’s  has a small change. Unlike the film, the story will be told from the perspective of a girl.

The role of Shireen i.e. Mahesh Bhatt’s mother will be essayed by popular TV actress Barkha Bisht. Pooja Bhatt played the part in the film. The father’s role will be played by Viraf Patel who won the Mr India title in 2005. He was last seen on Life OK’s Ek Boond Ishq. Nagarjuna played the role of Mahesh Bhatt’s father in the film.

While Kunal Kemmu and Ajay Devgn essayed Bhatt saab’s role in the film, actress Ashween will do it. She will play the role of young Avni. The child artiste is a new face and the channel has kept her under wraps.

TV actress Sayantani Ghosh will play Viraf’s wife on the show. As it was shown in the film, Viraf though is married to Sayantani will be also married to a Muslim lady played by Barkha Bisht Sengupta.

The serial will be from the child Avni and the role will be played by child actor Ashween. The serial will show the struggle of the child who fights for her legitimacy caught between Muslim society and an orthodox Hindu family.
