The arrest of performer Dileep on charges of criminal connivance for conspiracy the kidnapping and rape of an on-screen character, has sent ripples over the film h. However, director Vinayan says that it was imminent.
“From my personal experience, I realize that Dileep is a master manipulator and Mammootty and Mohanlal have recently been puppets in his hands. He rose to so much power that behind the scenes, it was him who was controlling Malayalam cinema’s progress,” says the director.
Vinayan points out that Dileep was crucial in ousting him from the film industry. “I had made the organisation MACTA and we had warned Dileep when he didn’t act in a motion picture in spite of taking advance from the producer. He then challenged me publicly and said he would ensure I don’t proceed in my position,” says Vinayan.
The filmmaker though hopes that the Malayalam film industry goes a sea change after Dileep’s arrest. “There’s a negative picture about those in films now however that will change in the end,” he says.
In the interim, associations, for example, AMMA, FEFKA and the makers’ affiliation have renounced Dileep’s membership. On-screen characters, for example, Prithviraj and Remya Nambeesan have additionally communicated their help to the decision.
