Dholpur: Police on Wednesday busted a factory in which country-made weapons were manufactured illegally. Police have arrested two arms dealer and his two accomplices and have seized a big haul of arms and cartridges.
The factory was running in an isolated area near a jungle at Maniyaan area of Dholpur. Senior police officers have termed it a big success against the crackdown on manufacturing of illegal arms in Dholpur which is been rampant in this region. There are many more such factories operated in this region where a country made pistol is sold in as low as Rs 2,000 per piece.
“We had increased surveillance against the arms smugglers who were active in the region. On Tuesday evening, we got a specific input on a temporary factory been running at Satayanka Puri area in Dholpur district under Maniyaan police station area. Two suspicious persons were first nabbed and interrogated,” said a senior police officer on Wednesday.
While the accused identified as Guddu and Haakim were frisked police found two country made pistol of 315 bore. “The accused confessed that they were going to sell these two to other persons. In their interrogation they told about an illegal arm factory been operated in an isolated area in the outskirts of the city.
We conducted a raid at the said area where the accused Kedar and Pappu were involved in manufacturing the illegal weapons. Both of them were also been arrested,” the officer added.
Police have seized almost a dozen of country made pistols, more than 10 barrels used to make country made guns, drilling machine and other equipment used in manufacturing of illegal weapons.
“The accused in the interrogation confessed that they were involved in manufacturing of weapons for years and used to shift their factory. They confessed that they used to sell these weapons in Rs 2,000 to Rs 8000,” said an officer.
When contacted, Rajesh Singh, Superintendent of police, Dholpur, said, “People living in the ravines of Dholpur take pride in possessing illegal weapon. The gangs we have busted has confessed to have manufactured and sold more than 500 weapons. We are interrogating the foursome and will get more details on if they were running other such factories in the district.”
