Demonetisation Anniversary: BJP and Congress to meet today over note ban


In context of demonetization anniversary, The BJP and the Congress-led Opposition will face off each other today. This day is marked as ‘anti-black money day’ by BJP while other parties observed it as a ’black day’ after the declaration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.

Several Union Ministers from Bhartiya Janta Party will throw light on the “advantages” of demonetisation on the first anniversary of demonetization.

On the other hand, Congress and several opposition parties stated it as “anti-people”. The parties will also carry out protest in various parts of India.

On the first anniversary of demonetization, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will head the party’s protest against demonetization in election bound Gujarat.

During his visit in Surat, Rahul Gandhi would interrelate with dealers, weavers and workers distressed by the demonetization and the Goods and Service Tax. Also, he will be present in the candle march that will be held to pay respect to those who died because of demonetisation.

On Wednesday, Union Ministers including Nitin Gadkari, Ananth Kumar, Nirmala Sitharaman, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Suresh Prabhu and Smriti Irani will talk to the media in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Lucknow over demonetization.

As per the reports, Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar will lead a press conference in Bengaluru and Piyush Goyal in Ahmedabad whereas BJP chief Amit Shah will be present in Gujarat.

On Tuesday, Ex Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated November 8 as a “black day for economy and democracy”. He even added that double bluster of demonetisation and execution of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) were grievous for the economy and “ruined the back of trade.”
