Raita is one of the most loved dishes in Indian cuisine. It forms an integral part. In Indian cuisine, which is notoriously known and loved for its inclination towards chilies and spices, raita comes as a respite – bringing about a cooling effect. It helps in toning down the intense flavors and being a savior to those who have a delicate palate. It is prepared with a mixed variety of vegetables, fruits and spices.

Make It At Home

It is easy to make it at home with any available ingredient at your cupboard. Relish it on its own for a quick dose of calcium and proteins, and also to keep cool on a hot summer afternoon, when eating light is the only remedy.

Here are a few delicious raita recipes to help you get started –

  1. Kheere Ka Raita

Ingredient:

1/2 onion chopped, 1/2 cucumber chopped, Salt to flavor, A bowl of curd, 1/2 tsp red chilli powder, 1 lemon, Handful coriander leaves chopped.

 

Method:

Take the curd and add onion, cucumber and lemon juice.
And season it with salt, red chilli powder and coriander leaves.
Mix it all.

2.Pineapple Raita

Ingredient:

2 cups chopped pineapple, 2 cups yogurt , 2 tsp salt , 1/4 tsp powdered black pepper , 2 tsp roasted and powdered cumin seeds , 1/4 tsp powdered red pepper , 2 Tbsp chopped coriander leaves.

Method:

Beat the yogurt till smooth. 
Add the salt, black pepper, 1 tsp of the cumin seed powder, 1 tbsp coriander leaves and mix well. 
Squeeze out the pineapple, in case there is excess liquid and add to the yogurt mixture. 
Transfer on to a serving bowl and garnish with the rest of the cumin powder, red pepper and coriander leaves, and serve chilled.

3.Aloo ka Raita

Ingredient:

2 cups potatoes – boiled peeled and diced , 2 cups yogurt , 2 tsp salt , 1/4 tsp black pepper powder , 2 tsp cumin seeds – roasted and powdered , 1/4 tsp red pepper powder, 2 Tbsp coriander leaves – chopped.

Method:

Beat the yogurt till smooth. 
Add salt, black pepper powder, cumin seed powder, coriander leaves and mix well with the potatoes. 
Transfer onto a serving bowl and garnish with the rest of the cumin powder, red pepper and coriander leaves. 
Serve the Aloo ka Raita chilled.
