A woman and her two daughters were found murdered at their house in northeast Delhi's Brahmpuri on Sunday afternoon after neighbours complained about stench coming from the house that was locked for a few days. Reportedly, police retrieved the bodies from a locked two-storey house located in Gali number 2 of the area. The bodies have been identified as Shabnam (9), Mehrunissa (19) and their mother Saira (50).
Police suspect they were sexually assaulted too before their throats were slit. They probably died of excessive blood loss. Neighbours said the house was owned by the woman's former husband who had divorced her five years ago and married another woman with whom he had an affair for long and had two children with. The man died a couple of years ago and the second wife's family had been harassing his first wife for property. It has been speculated that the murder happened three to four days back. The police have also found injury marks on their necks and arms.
Neighbours said the first wife and her girls stayed on the first and second floor of the house while the ground floor was let out to a tenant who has been missing since the incident. "The tenants had been living here ever since the woman's ex-husband died. But she suspected the tenant of having an affair with her elder daughter ," said another neighbour. Meanwhile police registered a case and started further investigation.
