New Delhi A 17-year old teenage girl was allegedly attacked and her throat slit with a kitchen knife at her residence in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri by her 24-year old lover. The accused was arrested within few hours of the incidence, the police reported.
According to the police the 24-year old accused was identified as Rahul kumar, a college dropout and a resident of Sultanpur Majra outer Delhi and the son of a police constable.
Around 9 in the morning on Thursday, the 17-year-old girl stumbled out of her house bleeding from a wound in her neck and collapsed on the street. A neighbour saw her and informed her parents, who had left for work. Later, it was established that a male friend had attacked the girl with a kitchen knife and fled from the spot.
The girl was taken to a government hospital, where doctors admitted her in the intensive care unit and carried out a surgical procedure on the gash on the neck. The teenager will remain in hospital for at least 48 more hours.
A case has been registered against the accused on charges of attempt to murder. More charges will be added to the FIR after police record the victim’s statement.
According to the sources, during questioning, Rahul claimed that he and the victim had known each other for one-and-half years. The accused told police that the victim had been pressuring him to marry her and he had attacked her in a fit of rage.
“According to Kumar, the girl wanted to get married to him but he didn’t want to do so as he was unemployed. However, we are waiting for the girl’s statement, after which we will be able to ascertain the motive behind the attack,” said a police officer.
