Delhi: A 25-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide by strangling himself at his home in Neb Sarai area of south Delhi. The reports revealed that he took this step as he could not able to exchange Rs 12 lakh notes because it was demonetized.
The name of the victim has been identified as Virender Basoya. He was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his flat. The reason behind his death has not been identified yet.
Victim’s wife Rounak Basoya said, “Her husband had been depressed for several days as he had not been able to exchange the money. He owned a television set showroom but business was not good. He also used to work as a money-lender and his dues were repaid in old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, which he had been trying to exchange.”
The victim committed suicide as he was going through financial problems. “No suicide note was found. Necessary legal action has been initiated,” said additional DCP (south) Nupur Prasad.
