Following the violence in Darjeeling, a 22 member committee of all Gorkha political parties in Darjeeling took decision to conduct a meeting that will emphasize on the future approach for the Gorkhaland protest.
Recently, four people died in the protest that was carried out by GJM in Darjeeling. On Saturday, the fourth activist, who sustained attack through bullets in the police gunfire faced heavy injuries on Tuesday. He has been identified as Ashok Tamang, 30, a native of Louis jubilee in Darjeeling. After the firing, he was immediately taken to the nearby hospital to undergo treatment.
As per the reports, the meeting will take place in Mirik, a municipality that the TMC won in the fresh political polls. In over two decades, Trinamool party win polls in the Darjeeling for the first time.
It was said earlier that the meeting will be held on 18th August. ”But that is still a week away, and after the events of the weekend there was a lot of pressure from the people to bring the meeting forward and a equally huge pressure on the leaders to take decisions fast,” GJM leader stated.
In the meeting, the leaders are likely to make a decision to carry on the indefinite protest- a order of the people, to not conduct any discussions with the state government but only contract with the central government and to focus on the plan of a independent Gorkhaland state – judgments which have been taken earlier.
“But Home Minister Rajnath Singh has evaluated the Prime Minister of the condition after his comeback to the country, we stay expectant of the Centre’s involvement,” he said.
